prison MInistry
“Let him who is without sin …” (Jn8:7)
We are blessed as a fellowship to be involved in ministering to both men and
women who find themselves in prison. Various members of our congregation support
the Chaplaincy teams of both our local prison here in Northallerton and also
in the prisons in Durham.
The background and criminal history of each individual prisoner will vary considerably,
and each person has many different needs. Chaplaincy teams seek to meet
these needs in many ways and we assist where we can including:-
AS PART OF THE CHAPLAINCY TEAM…
- Leading worship
- Leading and supporting discussion groups and music groups where individual prisoners are encouraged to grow in their faith, and perhaps hear about Jesus for the first time.
- Some of our church members maintain regular contact with individual prisoners in their role as prison visitors (National Association of Prison Visitors - e-mail: info@napv.org.uk). Both staff and prisoners appreciate their regular presence in the prison, especially where visits from a family member may not be possible.
AS PRISON FELLOWSHIP…
- We have an active Prison Fellowship group led by a couple from New Life Baptist Church. Providing valuable prayer and practical support for those who live and work in Northallerton prison. Each Christmas PF organize “Angel Tree” where a prisoner can arrange for a present to be sent to his child/ren – for more information: www.pfm.org.
