Our Vision

We believe God our Father is calling New Life to be more like His Son, Jesus. We will love and worship God with all our being, and call the people of North Yorkshire and beyond to faith and hope in Christ. Our core values as a church are:

  • That we are welcoming to all.

  • That we are a diverse church.

  • That we are focussed on word and spirit.

  • That we are a church family.

  • That we are active in mission.

We are a theologically diverse Church, but all come together to be part of a community that is receptive to God’s Word and open to the Spirit working in our lives. We would love to welcome you to be a part of our family here at New Life, and encourage you to journey with us in our growing faith and love.

As members of the Baptist Union and Evangelical Alliance, we subscribe to the BU’s Declaration of Principle, and the EA’s Basis of Faith.

Believer’s Baptism

As a baptist church, we believe that baptism is one of two special ways (sacraments) in which Jesus commanded us to declare our faith in Him. The other is communion. It is an outward act of being immersed in water, that displays an inward attitude - “I want to follow Christ for the rest of my life.”

At NLBC, we would encourage baptism for all those who have come to faith as an important step on the path of discipleship. We believe in the baptism by immersion of all those who have professed repentance towards God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Why should I be baptised?

  • Because Jesus was baptised (Matthew 3:13-17)

  • Because Jesus commanded it (Matthew 28:18-20)

What does it mean?

  • It is a picture of cleansing (Acts 22:16)

  • It is a picture of burying (Romans 6:1-4, Colossians 2:12)

  • It is a picture of empowering (Acts 2:38)

  • It is a picture of belonging (1 Corinthians 12:12-13)

Have more questions?

We regularly run an “Exploring Baptism” course, designed for you to find out more about what it means to be baptised. For more information about the next course, please contact the church office, or speak to one of our Pastors; Martin, Greg & Jen.
